This blog is created to raise awareness about the importance and value of libraries among the people of our country, special importance is given to exhibit contribution of health science librarians in health and social care within institutions and in nation building.
The health science librarians provide information resources to support health care. They encourage widespread use of health information among doctors, medical students, nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, social workers and researchers.
The technological advancement has enabled libraries to move beyond the four walls of a building, as a result, we, the librarians strive to meet the health information needs of a larger community and try to amend health information delivery at every region, so that people live better, healthier, happier and more productive lives.

Important National Organizations and Libraries

Ministry of Health and family welfare is responsible for drafting health policy in India. It is also responsible for all government programs relating to family planning. The ministry is composed of two departments: the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Department of AYUSH.

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is a registered society that is engaged in the training of public health professionals. It redress the limited institutional capacity and is involved in strengthening training, research and policy development. It is a public private partnership that has collaboratively evolved through consultations with multiple constituencies.It has set up Indian Institute of Public Health(IIPH) at three regions viz.Hyderabad, Delhi and Bhubaneshwar

The Medical Council of India is a statutory body charged with the responsibility of establishing and maintaining uniform standards of medical education and recognition of medical qualifications.
It also ensures the ethical practice of medicine by all registered medical practitioners.

Dental Council of India is a Statutory Body incorporated under an Act of Parliament viz. The Dentists Act, 1948 (XVI of 1948) to regulate the Dental Education and the profession of Dentistry throughout India and it is financed by the Govt. of India in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (Department of Health) through Grant-in-aid. The General Body of the Dental Council of India representing various State Governments, Universities, Dental Colleges, Central Government, etc

Indian Nursing Council is an Autonomous Body under the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare was constituted by the Central Government under section 3(1) of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947 of parliament in order to establish a uniform standard of training for nurses, Midwives and health visitors.

National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) is an Apex Technical Institute, funded by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for promotion of health and family welfare programmes in the country through education, training, research, evaluation, consultancy and specialised services

All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) It serves as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspects of health care viz.teaching, research and patient-care.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, is the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research. It is one of the oldest medical research bodies in the world.

National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) had its origin as Central Malaria Bureau, established at Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh) in 1909 and following expansion was renamed in 1927 as the Malaria Survey of India. The organization was shifted to Delhi in 1938 and called as the Malaria Institute of India (MII). In view of the drastic reduction achieved in the incidence of malaria under National Malaria Eradication Programme (NMEP), Government of India decided to reorganize and expand the activities of the institute to cover other communicable diseases. Thus, on July 30, 1963 the erstwhile MII was renamed as NICD to shoulder these additional responsibilities.
